In 1995, Ultram gained Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) approval. Prescribed to manage moderate
to moderately severe pain, Ultram is
an analgesic. Working directly with the brain and spinal
cord, Ultram minimizes pain signals passed from one nerve
to another. Ultram should only be used
as long as prescribed by a doctor. Usually, it is taken
every 4 to 6 hours as needed; however, the dose should
never be increased more frequently than prescribed. Ultram
can be habit-forming. Potentially, Ultram
might cause dizziness, weakness, incoordination, nausea
or vomiting, stomach upset, constipation, headache, drowsiness,
anxiety, irritability or dry mouth. Reporting a complete
medical history to a medical provider is required before
using Ultram.
